Professor and Chairman, Department of Cardiovascular Surgery,
The University of Tokyo

The 35th ASCVTS will be held in Yokohama from May 19 to 22, 2027. Yokohama, a magnificent city adjacent to Tokyo, is located very close to Haneda International Airport. Established in 1859 as Japan's second international port by the modernizing Tokugawa shogunate, it has long served as a vital gateway for international trade and exchange. With its rich history, Yokohama features a vibrant multicultural landscape and numerous historic buildings. It is also home to Japan's largest Chinatown.

I grew up in Yokohama, a city full of international culture, from childhood through medical school. It is an immense honor to host the 35th ASCVTS Annual Meeting in my hometown. We have chosen the theme 'Asia! Treasure Continent of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery.' With 4.86 billion people—about 60% of the world’s population—Asia is the largest continent, comprising 48 nations, each with unique cultures and histories. Economic disparities and healthcare systems vary widely across countries. As the Society in charge the ASCVTS embraces the mission of advancing education in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery across this diverse region, supporting treatment possibilities tailored to national contexts. Today, Asia's immense potential is attracting global attention—especially in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery. Since 2008, we’ve held joint Post-Graduate Courses with AATS, and recently expanded collaborations with EACTS and STS for Joint Sessions. Indeed, Asia has become the treasure continent of cardiovascular and thoracic surgery.

At the 35th ASCVTS Annual Meeting in Yokohama, we will maintain and strengthen our collaboration with AATS, EACTS and STS while also creating opportunities for global awareness of innovative device therapies and surgical techniques uniquely developed across Asian countries including Japan. Asia is truly the Treasure Continent of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery! We will build a robust academic conference where we firmly shake hands with world-leading speakers from the globe and, at the same time, confidently showcase our expertise. The month of May in Yokohama promises warm, pleasant weather. We wholeheartedly invite you to join us, enjoy refined cuisine and the stylish streets of Yokohama with friends from around the world.
