Kengo Yamamoto, M.D., Ph.D. Congress President The 35th Annual Research Meeting of the Japanese Orthopaedic Association Department of Orthopedic Surgery Tokyo Medical University |

It is my pleasure to be able to welcome you to the 35th Annual Research Meeting of the Japanese Orthopaedic Association, which will be held on the 15th and 16th October, 2020 at the Keio Plaza Hotel in Shinjuku, Tokyo. This is the first time that Tokyo Medical University has had the honor of presiding over this conference.
Recent years have seen a general decline in interest in the pursuit of long-term goals in both basic and clinical research in the field of orthopaedics. Rather, the focus is now on research more likely to bring about immediate results. While such research also has its place, I would like to see this annual meeting serve as a platform for rediscovering and reevaluating the importance of embracing more ambitious, long-term goals; goals that, nonetheless, will be indispensable for real progress in orthopaedics in the future. I believe that such work must form one of the cornerstones of research in this field.
I would like to finish by thanking all those who have made this meeting possible. Please be sure of a warm welcome here in Japan in 2020.
