Vascular Surgery Olympiad 2020 in Tokyo

The 48th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society for Vascular Surgery will be held from 27th (Wednesday) to 29th (Friday) May, 2020, in Keio Plaza Hotel in Tokyo, which will host the Olympic Games soon. The theme of the meeting is “Vascular Surgery Olympiad”, and its key words are “International,” “Diversity,” “Generation,” “Training,” and “Education.” Over 25 international experts including Dr. MH Yacoub, Dr. J Coselli, Dr. J Bavaria, Dr. KJ Hodgson, Dr. R Bartolomeo, Dr. T Sundt, Dr. G El Khoury, Dr. A Dardik, Dr. KC Kent, Dr. E Roselli, Dr. A Estrera, Dr. H Patel, Dr. A Azizzadeh, Dr. M Czerny, Dr. C Etz, Dr. D Pacini, Dr. GS Oderich, Dr. T Kölbel, Dr. KH Park, Dr. SJ Choo, and Dr. K Sung will be invited to have interdisciplinary discussions and debates on an international level. This annual meeting is expected to be suitable for the Olympic year because experienced surgeons will impart techniques and knowledge to the next-generation surgeons and because English, which is an international language, should be used on many occasions. Under the main theme, “Aortic Symposium with East and West (AoSEW),” thorough debates will be held at two venues for two and a half days. At the same time, we will also focus on visual learning. Easy-to-understand images and videos will be presented to provide participants with opportunities to understand and acquire knowledge on surgical techniques. In addition, surgical forum sessions and poster presentations for young surgeons, as well as case report sessions for trainee doctors and students will be held. In each discussion, the audience will use their smartphones to tweet their opinion, to minimize the distance between speakers and audience and to make the discussions more interactive. We will design a dedicated application for tweeting and provide participants with relevant information prior to the meeting. We hope that we can propose a new meeting style using such an information technology.

We expect many abstracts to be submitted and look forward to meeting you, to passionately discuss the near future of vascular surgery in the highly advanced metropolitan city Tokyo, in May 2020, soon before the Olympic Games.
