It is my great honor to serve as Congress President of the 55th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society for Spine Surgery and Related Research (JSSR), to be held from April 16 (Thursday) to 18 (Saturday), 2026, at the Fukuoka International Congress Center and Marine Messe Fukuoka Hall B.
The theme of this meeting is “The Mastery of Spinal Arts.” Spine surgeons approach clinical practice and research with a spirit of dedication and discipline, akin to the pursuit of mastery in traditional arts. This ethos resonates with martial arts, where spirituality and unwavering commitment to principles are highly esteemed. In clinical practice, education, and research alike, our field requires firm ideals and sincere intellectual inquiry. By presenting this unique approach to spinal medicine as “Spinal Arts,” we aim to explore, refine, and advance it together with our members.
For this Annual Meeting, we have prepared a comprehensive and diverse program that combines academic rigor with contemporary relevance. The Special Lectures will address cutting-edge topics such as the integration of AI, robotics, and medicine, as well as strategies for extending healthy life expectancy and the quest for agelessness. The Educational Lectures will highlight the future of smart hospitals and present the latest insights into spinal and spinal cord disorders. In addition, we have organized a wide range of themed sessions, symposia, oral and poster presentations, and sponsored seminars to ensure that all participants can expand their knowledge and foster collaboration. Participants will also have the opportunity to engage with the latest medical devices and technologies showcased in the exhibition hall.
Fukuoka, the host city, is the largest urban center in Kyushu, where history, nature, and modern culture harmoniously converge. Visitors can enjoy the historic charm of Hakata, savor fresh seafood from the Genkai Sea, and experience a wide variety of renowned local cuisine. In the evening, the lively food stalls of Nakasu offer a unique opportunity to share a drink and conversation with the local community. Conveniently, Fukuoka Airport is just a 10-minute subway ride from the city center, ensuring easy access for participants traveling from across Japan and abroad.
I sincerely hope that this meeting will not only provide rich academic stimulation but also allow participants to experience the atmosphere, hospitality, and culture of Fukuoka. I warmly look forward to welcoming you to Fukuoka for an engaging and memorable meeting.
