Weather and Climate
Around early March, the weather in Kobe, Japan, typically starts to transition from winter to spring. During March 6-8, you can expect:
- Mild Temperatures: Average temperatures range from 8°C (46°F) to 13°C (55°F). It’s cool but comfortable, especially for those coming from colder climates.
- Early Spring Blossoms: While cherry blossoms usually peak later in March and April, you may start to see early signs of spring with some flowers beginning to bloom, adding a touch of color to the city.
- Less Crowded Tourist Spots: Early March is slightly before the peak tourist season, so foreign participants can enjoy Kobe's attractions with fewer crowds.
- Comfortable Exploring Weather: The mild weather is perfect for sightseeing around Kobe, whether it’s exploring the historic Kitano district, enjoying the scenic views from Mount Rokko, or tasting the famous Kobe beef.
Dress/Attire
Business casual attire is suitable for the meeting. Some meeting rooms may be cool, so it is advisable to bring a sweater or light jacket. Comfortable shoes are also recommended.

Japan operates on 100 volts AC with a frequency of 60 Hertz, and the electrical outlets in Japan are Type A, 2-pin ungrounded outlets.

Tipping

Currency & Exchange Rate

If you haven't prepared cash in advance, it's easy to exchange any currency into Japanese yen once you arrive in the country. All major airports have exchange points in their respective arrivals halls. Even though it is possible to buy train tickets, take taxis, and pay for most other services on offer at the airport with international credit cards, carrying some cash is recommended. You will need some during your stay.
ICOCA -electronic card that can be used for trains
An IC card will become your most treasured possession during your stay in Japan. Use it to transfer swiftly between train lines and hop onto waiting buses and boats with a minimum of fuss. You can also use it at a number of vending machines and convenience stores, some taxis and for other services.
ICOCA cards can be used all across Japan on railways and buses, and at stores displaying the IC mark. Simply "recharge" the card by adding funds for continued convenience!
Muslim Travelers
JSMO 2025 warmly welcomes all Muslim attendees! Japan is typically tolerant of different religions and becoming more attuned to the needs of Muslim visitors. Muslim travelers should be aware, however, there is no central agency for halal accreditation. That said, many Muslim-friendly resources exist.
