Making Reference to Specific Information in Titles and Bodies of Abstracts

JDDW requests that you do not refer to any information in your abstract title or abstract body which could potentially identify patients. We ask that you place the utmost consideration on protecting the privacy of your patients.

We also request that you do not refer to any potential information which may identify yourself as the applicant, including your name or the name of your institutions. This request is made in order to secure fairness in refereeing.

Please refer to the following examples of specific information when preparing your abstracts.


Specific dates (hospital admission and release dates, treatment initiation dates, etc.)

  • Describe dates that cannot be identified, by using terms such as “early ~” or “mid ~.”
  • Ex.) October 1, 2013 => early October, 2013; or, X days of illness

Names of patients, applicants and institutions

  • Do not mention the names of patients, yourself, or co-speakers.
  • Refer to your institution using terms such as “our hospital,” “our department” or “our university.”
  • For names of institutions other than your own, use notations such as “relevant hospital” or “applicable institution.”
  • Prefecture and city names can be mentioned when describing a place name.
  • Ex.)
  • VV Prefectural Hospital => Our hospital
  • Gastroenterological Medicine Department, WW University => Our Department
  • XX City Medical Association => Our Medical Association
  • YY Hospital Ethical Committee => Our hospital Ethical Committee
  • ZZ Prefecture Palliative Care Association => Our association

Literature titles for study papers

  • Do not use author names to describe literature written by co-speakers or yourself.
  • Ex.)
  • (A. Suzuki Clin J Gastroenterol 2012) => (Clin J Gastroenterol 2012)
  • *Authors can be mentioned for literature which does not identify applicants.

Personal acknowledgements, names of co-researchers/research collaborators

  • Do not give personal acknowledgements or reference the names of any co-researchers or research collaborators.
  • Ex.)
  • “I would like to express my profound appreciation towards Professor Hanako Shokaki and Dr. Taro Kanzo from UU University who collaborated in this research.”
  • => Leave out acknowledgement.
  • “This was a co-research between the Health Management Department of VV Hospital and the Department of Chinese Internal Medicine at WW University.”
  • => Leave out specific information regarding co-researchers, including names of individuals or institutions
  • “Since XX abnormality was not found we consulted with Professor YY of ZZ University.”
  • => Replace specific information regarding co-researchers, including names of individuals and institutions, with descriptions that cannot identify them
  • (Since XX abnormality was not found we consulted with a specialist from another institution)
