The 12th International Convention of Asia Scholars - Crafting a Global Future

ICAS 12 goes virtual!

Kyoto Seika University, together with all its partners, and the ICAS Secretariat warmly welcome you to the first virtual edition of ICAS!

The International Convention of Asia Scholars (ICAS) is a biennial meeting platform for academics, cultural and civic actors from all over the world to discuss and share new insights on Asia and in ‘Asian Studies’ in a multidisciplinary, transsectorial context. ICAS events embrace a wide range of topics in Asian Studies research and Asian affairs in general. They draw from a humanistic social science interest that can include other areas and forms of knowledge, including the arts as well as scientific, policy and practitioners’ experiences.

The Convention attracts participants from around 65 countries to engage in global dialogues on Asia that transcend boundaries between academic disciplines and geographic areas. The 12th International Convention of Asia Scholars (ICAS 12) will be held online from 24-28 August 2021.

Kyoto Seika University (SEIKA) will be the main host of ICAS 12, partnering with the city, The Kyoto Consortium of Universities, museums and craft centres. SEIKA delivers programmes to more than 3,500 students across five faculties – Art, Design, Manga, Popular Culture and Humanities – and promotes a spirit of independence and freedom through progressive, liberal and humanistic education. SEIKA’s newly opened Research Center for African and Asian Contemporary Cultures, as well as their Center for Innovation in Traditional Industries which will be part of the innovative online platform of ICAS 12. SEIKA is proud to co-organize ICAS 12 on the theme of Crafting a Global Future.
