Congress President – APMSTS 2021
Dear Distinguished Colleagues and International Advisory Board Members of the Asia Pacific Musculoskeletal Tumor Society,
On behalf of the organizing committee of the 13th Asia Pacific Musculoskeletal Tumor Society Meeting (APMSTS 2021), I am delighted to invite you all to APMSTS 2021 to be held from April 21 to 23 in 2021 at Okayama Convention Center in Okayama, Japan. APMSTS 2020, originally scheduled in April 2020, was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We are grateful to all the members for their ongoing dedication and contribution and honoring us with the opportunity to host our fellow doctors and researchers who have been impeccable assets to the field of musculoskeletal tumors in and out of the Asia Pacific region. We set the subtitle for the meeting as Asia Concerto: Okayama 2021.
In recent years, the diagnosis and treatment of bone and soft tissue tumors has improved dramatically. Cooperation and friendship among Asia Pacific countries on the subject of musculoskeletal tumors is of great importance not only to Asia, but to the world. Exchanging advanced science on musculoskeletal tumors, I believe, enhances mutual knowledge and understanding, widens common ground, develops global cooperation and contributes to a prosperous future. I sincerely hope that the APMSTS will continue to improve the relationship among Asian countries.
Okayama is situated in the mid-western region of Japan and faces the Seto Inland Sea, known as "the Land of Sunshine." Excellent weather, a mild climate and hardly any natural disasters make it ideal for growing the best kinds of fruit in Japan, such as peaches and grapes, as well as a popular destination for visitors. Korakuen Garden is one of the three most beautiful scenic gardens in Japan. It has three stars in the Michelin Guide. Nearby Kurashiki City is home to a well-known historical area, Bikan District, a charming town alive with boutiques, cafes and history.
This prefecture plays a key role as a transportation hub in the surrounding region. The Great Seto Bridge, called the Seto Ohashi, for instance, is the inclusive term for six consecutive bridges in the Seto Inland Sea, providing access between the Main Island and Shikoku Island. This architectural feat still holds the world record as the longest two-tier bridge, accommodating both cars and trains.
Another key location, called the Benesse Art Site, on a small island in the Seto Inland Sea, Naoshima, is an unparalleled experience. It offers a unique opportunity to see the best contemporary art, architecture and sculpture in a natural setting – Naoshima is certain to take your breath away.
APMSTS 2021 will mark the 26th anniversary since the first APMSTS Meeting hosted by Professor Yoshio Ogihara in Japan in 1995. And now Japan welcomes the APMSTS back after 26 years and we are especially pleased to host you in the best season in Okayama.
We hope you have a wonderful time in Okayama in 2021 and enjoy every bit of the 'Land of Sunshine'!
