Densho Road Tours
The Great East Japan Earthquake was an unparalleled catastrophe that extended 500 km north to south, centering in the Pacific Ocean coastal area of Tohoku (Northeast Japan). This led to numerous remnants of the disaster being maintained and preservation facilities established. Through them, we can grasp the actual circumstances of the disaster and the reality of the damage suffered, learn about the subsequent recovery and restoration, and understand infrastructure as disaster preparedness. The goal of the tours organized by 3.11 Densho Road Promotion Organization are “learning” and “preparedness.”
Disaster-Preparedness/ Densho Seminars
3.11 Densho Road Promotion Organization promotes the creation of a network of disaster memorial facilities in disaster-stricken areas and carries out “3.11 Densho Road” activities with the aim of strengthening regional disaster preparedness and encouraging interaction. As a part of the 3.11 Densho Road approach and efforts, we hold disaster-preparedness/ densho seminars to spread knowledge and public awareness, and gain the understanding not only of people in disaster-stricken areas, but of everyone throughout Japan.
Video Archive Project
This project retains a video archive as a record of activities of all construction companies that have endeavored to carry out various activities since the disaster. The purpose is to pass on to succeeding generations the self-sacrificing actions taken immediately after the Great East Japan Earthquake and documentation of the subsequent recovery and restoration that has continued for 10 years. The project aims to broadly serve society with an eye toward sharing lessons learned and creating a new society with an awareness of disaster prevention.
