I am pleased to announce that the 46th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Hip Society will be held at SEAGAIA convention center in Miyazaki on October 25-26, 2019. Originally called the Japanese Hip Research Society, this meeting was founded in 1974 to educate and examine fundamental/clinical studies related to hip science. Starting from the 13th annual meeting in 1986, the meeting became to be known as the Japanese Hip Society. This meeting is a major networking event in which doctors and medical staff who specialize or are interested in the study of hip joints can meet. Additionally, it serves as a platform to discuss a wide range of recent topics from fundamental to clinical study. By hosting this event, our hope is to tie the bond between medical practitioners.

I am honored to be able to host this annual meeting on behalf of the department of Orthopaedic Surgery Faculty at the University of Miyazaki. We thank you all for this opportunity.

We examine hip joint studies that cover everyone from new born babies to the elderly, and the disabled to the healthy – our meeting is unique in that we examine a wide range of people in different age groups and health conditions. We also cover a wide range of conditions such as degenerative conditions, lesions, sports-related injuries, infections, bone diseases, congenital diseases, tumors and more. Therefore, we have selected the theme of this meeting to be “ Hip joint study innovation – progression with legacy”. We inherited the achievements and wisdom of various areas in the field of hip joints from past practitioners. Furthermore, the latest knowledge, development of technology, human resource development are all important areas to focus on to advance new developments within the field of hip joint study to help our future generations. We hope our lectures will cover a wide array of topics from fundamentals to innovation, targeted to not only medical doctors but also nurses, physical therapists, lab technicians and all other practitioners in the medical community. Also, we hope to send a message to the people in Japan that the hip joint field is an important area of study, especially since this is the second annual meeting after the Japanese Hip Society became incorporated.

The venue is located in the center of the resort complex “SEAGAIA” which is surrounded by fantastic views of the Miyazaki Hitotsuba Coast. It hosted many important events in the past such as the Kyushu-Okinawa G8 Summit for foreign ministers, the Dunlop Phoenix Tournament of Japan, and used as training camps for top athletes in baseball, soccer, and rugby. In fact, SEAGAIA combines the words “sea” in English and “Gaia” which means earth in Japanese. Also, famous shrines based on the myth of “KOJIKI” are within reach from the conference site.

Also, outside of SEAGAIA, places like Saito and Takachiho are famously known to be Japan’s birthplace as written in works such as “Kojiki” and “Nihonshoki”. Miyazaki also has many attractive sightseeing spots and delicious food. After the meeting, we hope you will enjoy the many things Miyazaki has to offer. I sincerely look forward to welcoming you in Miyazaki.
